Being healthy doesn’t have to be hard. Stop making it hard! With a little creativity you can enjoy so many of the foods you love in life – and still get shredded and reach your goal. Stop starving yourself. No seriously. STOP. I say this will love and to myself daily. Just start properly fueling your body and actually eating more – just more of the right foods. Eat more and increase that metabolism, lift heavy, get shredded and most importantly – BE HAPPY.
At the end of the day, learning how to properly fuel my body for me has become all about setting myself up to live my best healthiest life so that I can show up for myself and others at full capacity. It is so hard to be happy and show up for others (let alone yourself) when you feel lethargic, tired, bloated, irritable.. the list goes on. As someone who deals with autoimmunity, I know how important food is. Food can either be really helping you or reallyyyy hindering you from reaching your goals and being your healthiest best self. And the good news is.. it is something that is totally in your control. Nobody can force you to eat anything. The choice is yours and yours alone. Before I eat something, I ask myself if it is going to push me towards disease or towards health. The more wins you can string together towards health the better!

Your diet is one of the first things you should address when looking to shed some extra pounds. It is cliche but true that you cannot “out workout” a bad diet. Proper training and exercise is important – don’t get me wrong. I am just as passionate about fitness and lifting as I am nutrition. But there is no debate that your diet ironically does more of the heavy lifting as far as results go in the gym. Without addressing diet, you are going to be frustrated with seeing results in the gym.
Focus on eating foods that are pushing you towards health and away from disease and watch the extra pounds start to melt away. Something that has become clear to me on this path of holistic health that I am on is that a lot of the time, extra weight is just your body holding onto toxins. Learn how to detox better and you will lose weight. And one of the best ways you can help your body detoxify is to fuel it with healing foods and to stop bombarding it with crap (ultra processed high inflammatory foods, trans fats, sugar, artificial sweeteners, fillers etc).

A quote by James Clear I read the other day goes “You are not your grand plans. You are your daily patterns.” If you want to change your life, change your daily patterns and habits and watch those habits compound and turn you into the healthiest and best version of you! It starts with slowing down and focusing on making healthier decisions one day at a time and one meal at a time. These pancakes are high in protein and fiber – both important to have in abundance in your diet when trying to stay lean, fight off toxins and build lean muscle. Now let’s get cooking!

Step 1 : Combine wet ingredients
Step 2: Add dry ingredients and mix batter together well
Step 3: Spray pan with non stick cooking oil (I use organic EVOO) and set to lowish heat (~2-3). Once pan is hot, pour half of batter into pan (add blueberries on top now if wanted). Cook for two minutes. Flip over and cook for two more minutes. Remove pancake and repeat steps with the rest of the batter to make second pancake. Viola! Breakfast is served. Enjoy!
Wet Ingredients:
- 1/2 tspn vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 150 g egg whites
- 50 g mashed banana
Dry Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp psyllium whole husk fiber
- 1 tbsp coconut flour
- 1/4 tspn baking powder
- 5 g chia seeds
- 1 tbsp organic flaxseed meal
- a few shakes of ground cinnamon
- 1 scoop of Promix unflavored whey protein isolate (or your protein of choice)
- 50 g blueberries (optional)
These pancakes are not overly sweet. Some ideas to add sweetness if that’s your vibe: use a very ripe banana. Add a little stevia to the batter. Drizzle a little almond butter, honey or maple syrup on top (just don’t go overboard). Maybe sprinkle in some dark chocolate chips if you are feeling extra spicy. Using a flavored protein that you love is also another way you could make them extra delishhh!

Psyllium whole husk fiber is a great source of fiber with so many benefits. It helps usher bad cholesterol out of the body, reduces inflammation, increases satiety between meals, helps balance blood sugar levels, feeds your good gut bacteria and can help with regular bowel movements.
